Endless Adventures Awaits...

to Services

The Shenandoah Valley and the surrounding area offer endless opportunities for adventure. I can help you choose an adventure that is just right for you. Any time of year, there are fish to be caught and I can help you catch them. Whether you are an experienced angler or someone who has never picked up a rod, you'll have a great time. If you're unsure where you'd like to go, contact me and I can suggest an area depending on the time of year. I have a 16' Maravia raft with an oar frame for bigger water or waders for smaller streams and creeks. I can teach you how to cast, which flies to use and when, how to read the water, and most importantly, how to find the fish. This area offers a lot of great places to fish, drop me a line, and let's have an adventure!

Local Waters

Shenandoah River

The ‘doah is made up of three parts, the South Fork, the North Fork, and the Main Stem. Each has different characteristics and qualities. The South Fork is the most popular for smallmouth bass. 50 fish days are fairly common. There are excellent numbers of 12-14” bass with a good (and getting better) numbers of 18” and up fish. The South Fork and Mainstem also have very large musky. This river is best floated with our 16’ fishing raft. The number of access points on the Shenandoah allow for a variety of float options to best suite your desires.

Potomac River

The Potomac River is a huge river. It starts in the mountains of West Virginia and flows north, picking up water the whole way, eventually dumping into the Chesapeake Bay. The Potomac offers so many different fishing options it’s unbelievable. The Potomac has different characteristics throughout it's journey from the mountains to the Chesapeake. Higher in the mountains of West Virginia, brown and rainbow trout can be found. Where the river slows down and warms slightly, smallmouth bass, musky, and giant carp can be found. After the North Fork leaves the bottom draw from Jennings Randolph Lake on the West Virginia/Maryland border, it is cold, full of nutrients, and loaded with trout. The river then slows again and begins to take on more of a warmwater fishery. It flows through the countryside of West Virginia and meets the Shenandoah at Harper's Ferry. Here you’ll find amazing smallmouth habitat surrounded by amazing views, rich cultural history, and a few small rapids to liven things up. Depending of what you want to fish for and your time frame, any trip can be planned to fish the Potomac.

Back Country Trips in West Virginia

I have teamed up with Cool Water Outfitters to offer a unique backcountry fishing opportunity.

At Cool Water Outfitters, we cater our fishing trips to all abilities (beginner to expert) and all interest levels. We offer some of the most pristine back country fishing within West Virginia (access limited to "on-foot" and horseback only) and on National Forest waters. Our season starts typically in early spring when fishing for big brookies and rainbows can be hot.

In early to mid-July is when we can get to some of our most remote waters via horseback and mule strings including getting our remote camps set. These remote spots offer back country fishing at its finest for big rainbows and brookies. It is about the early to mid-July timeframe that small river fishing heats up and stays productive most of the summer. If you enjoy fishing light tackle and dry flies for small brookies, this is as good as it gets!

For guided trips, we offer experienced, professional guides who know both the water and the country. In preparation for your trip, we will provide insight on proper gear, tackle and flies needed. For those who are beginners, we also offer fly fishing instruction and thoroughly enjoy introducing folks to the sport. You'd be surprised with a little instruction and time on the water how quickly you can improve and start catching fish! We certainly also understand many youngsters may not yet be ready for fly fishing and want to spin fish. That is not a problem either. We do encourage pinching the barbs on hooks with lures as we actively practice catch and release to preserve the quality of our fisheries. However, this does not exclude keeping a few small brookies for an appetizer here and there.

When you come fish with Cool Water Outfitters, you can expect to find a professional, experienced staff as well as excellent stock for all riding abilities. Therefore, if you enjoy riding the back country and want to get away from the crowds on your next fishing adventure, we are a destination you need to experience. We will put together a trip that meets your interests. Lastly, if you have any special requests please ask (including menu), we will do what we can to make your fishing trip with us everything you want it to be and more!

Whether you are a novice or an experienced angler, our guides will help you navigate the crystal-clear waters of Shavers Fork for both native and stocked trout.
